7 displayed after home destroyed in heater sparked fire

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Seven individuals are receiving assistance after their home and most personal belongings were destroyed by a fire on Tuesday afternoon.
A person in the home called 911 at 12:38 p.m. saying a fire had sparked in a back bedroom by a heater, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue.
Those in the home were able to exit safely, and no injuries were reported.When fire crews arrived, the flames had traveled to the attic. Responders entered through the front door initially, but the roof began collapsing and they had to exit.
As the fire grew, additional resources and water were requested. Colleton Fire said the flames were under control within 35 minutes, but crews stayed on the scene for four hours to perform overhaul duties.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the individuals who lost their homes. Officials said most personal items were destroyed in the blaze.
