HOUSTON (KIAH) -- The suspect who shot and killed a Brazoria County deputy has been shot and killed by law enforcement officers on Wednesday. Houston police said in a social media post that the suspect, Robert Lee Davis, was shot and killed around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday behind the Dollar Tree store, where he shot and killed a deputy earlier in the day. (Houston Police Department) Houston police responded to a shooting involving a deputy from Brazoria County in the 9300 block of Stella Link Road, near the 610 South Loop. Officials said that the deputy, named Jesus "Jesse" Vargas, was from Brazoria County and was part of the U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He was a 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. The suspect of the shooting, HPD posted on its social media channels, is Robert Lee Davis, who also goes by Sean Christopher Davis. The 56-year-old man is 5-foot-10, about 200 pounds, and wearing a blue Nike hoodie and blue jeans. According to preliminary information from the Houston Police Department, the deputy was shot by a suspect who fled. The deputy was executing a warrant for the suspect's arrest. A search for the suspect began as authorities were asking the public to avoid the area near the investigation scene. Meanwhile, two Houston ISD schools were in lockdown as the search continued. "More people were shot," according to witnesses who talked with CW39 exclusively. A K-9 officer was also injured in the shooting. The deputy was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was later declared dead. HPD chief J. Noe Diaz said that all law enforcement was searching for the suspect near Stella Link and Loop 610 West. A Blue Alert was issued for the suspect. Chief Diaz also said that the suspect is armed and dangerous. "A lot of manpower is underway to bring this man to justice," he said. "Be aware in the public and aware of your surroundings."
