The Green Ridge Golf Course project to address the course’s lack of water will not begin until the ground is frozen to prevent damage to the course, according to city officials. The construction company for Green Ridge is responsible for draining the pond, said City Engineer Peter Formica. “It should be at half at this point,” he said. The project to install an irrigation system should take approximately two weeks once it has commenced, Formica said. “The hope is that January and February will be cold enough to complete the project, but the last two years have not been significantly cold,” he said. “If necessary, an alternate solution will be proposed.” Related Articles Local News | Wickliffe addressing irrigation at Green Ridge Golf Course Wickliffe Mayor Joe Sakacs said that the lack of water at the golf course should be addressed by early this year. Dredging is the first step in addressing the lack of water. Formica reported that the current estimate is $150,000 for dredging the public golf course’s pond, located at 29150 Ridge Road. “The contractor will be mobilizing and hopefully starting work,” he said. “We will then have a water source.” Formica said that adding an irrigation system is expensive, so the city is looking into how to do it in phases. The estimate to complete the irrigation system is $1 million. “It could be possible to do some of the work in house,” he said, noting the city is also looking into acquiring funding. “There is a water system and it is still working, however it is only for the greens, not the fairways.” Councilperson Matthew Jaworski has expressed concerns regarding losing the course due to its current condition. Councilperson James Bala has also observed that the course has been exceptionally dry this year and is hoping the dredging will improve the condition of the greens.
