OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Crews with the Oceanside Fire Department (OFD) responded to reports of a residential structure fire on Foussat Road Tuesday afternoon. The fire, which originated in a garage connected to a home, was reported at 3:12 p.m. by a passerby who noticed smoke emanating from an open garage door.
The first fire engine arrived on scene just four minutes later, according to OFP. Responding firefighters found heavy smoke and flames billowing from the garage. Upon assessing the situation, the fire captain directed his team to focus on containing the fire by directing hose streams into the garage.

Meanwhile, an additional crew entered the home to search for any trapped occupants and assess the spread of the fire within the house, OFD explained further. The ladder truck was also deployed to the roof to evaluate whether a ventilation hole was necessary to remove smoke from the living areas.
The fire was contained to the garage and did not extend into the home. Despite a large number of stored items inside the garage, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within 23 minutes, declaring the fire "under control" at 3:39 p.m.
In a later development, a secondary search of the home led to the discovery of two cats hiding under a bed. Both animals were safely rescued and returned to their owners without injury.
OFD called in fire investigators to determine the cause of the blaze. Preliminary findings suggest that it started due to electrical wiring in the garage.
Local fire officials are using this incident as an opportunity to raise awareness about the risks posed by outdated electrical wiring, stating, "Many homes, especially older ones, still rely on outdated electrical systems that were not designed to handle the demands of today’s modern appliances and electronics. Ignoring these aging systems can lead to severe consequences, including electrical fires, electrocution, and costly repairs."
