WINFIELD, Kan. (KSNW) -- Winfield police say a man tried to hit a hotel worker and pushed the worker to the ground Tuesday. Police say the incident led to a standoff that lasted several hours.
Dispatchers got the report of a disturbance at the Econo Lodge, 1710 Main Street, around 12:30 p.m. The Winfield Police Department went to investigate.
Hotel workers told officers the man had exited his room, yelled at them, and tried to hit one of them before going back into his room.
Officers tried to talk to make contact with him. They said that at one point, he was seen in the room with a hunting-style knife, waving it around and striking the window with it.

Police tried to get him to leave the room, but they said he would not come out. They got an arrest warrant and asked the Southern Kansas SWAT team to help.
Just before 6 p.m., SWAT entered the man's room and arrested him. Police say he had a minor injury and was taken to the hospital to be checked first, then to the Cowley County Jail.
The suspect is a 48-year-old man from Pine Mountain, Georgia. Police say they booked him on suspicion of battery and possession of stolen property. However, more charges might be possible as the case is still under investigation.
The Cowley County Sheriff's Office, Winfield Fire Department and Cowley County Communications assisted police and SWAT during the standoff.
