EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A local camp director was honored for her work during an East Longmeadow town council meeting. Elizabeth Edwards received the 'Arly Rising Star' award. It honors dedicated individuals making an extraordinary impact on children in their community. Excel Dryer of East Longmeadow given ‘Great Place to Work’ certification This award recognized Edwards for her contributions to Pine Knoll Day Camp at East Longmeadow Recreation Department. She was seen as an emerging leader in youth programming, that goes above and beyond to ensure the success of the children within the camp. President of Arly, Tony Battaglia told 22News, "These youth, they're getting a chance in life because someone is giving them that chance. Right. And I think people like Elizabeth do that in their process." "She is about to graduate in early education from Westfield State University," adds Recreation Director Donna Prather. "And she just loves these kiddos. And we love her for loving them." Edwards was also awarded a $1,500 college scholarship.
