Teen arrested in Valdosta murder case

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WSAV) – A 16-year-old faces murder and other charges in connection to a deadly shooting in Valdosta.
Damirie Washington was arrested by police in Riverdale, Georgia, as he was attempting to shoplift at a Walmart, the Valdosta Police Department said.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Washington had warrants for murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The charges stem from Dec. 30, when Valdosta Police officers were called to the 700 block of Stillwater Drive on reports of gunshots.
Police arrived to find a 41-year-old man unresponsive on the ground. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
"We are thankful for the work of the Riverdale Police Department to help us get this dangerous juvenile off the streets. He can now be held accountable for his callous actions,“ said Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
