Park City Pulse: Chamber stayed engaged during strike
Jan 15, 2025
With the strike by the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association in the rearview mirror, it is good to see Park City back to normal, ready to move forward and enjoy the season. During the strike, the chamber primarily focused on supporting our business community by monitoring impacts and protecting our Mountainkind brand, efforts that were not necessarily publicly visible. We kept our more than 1,000 partners updated, deploying special messages and our regular newsletter to advocate for a speedy resolution while acknowledging the difficulties involved.Throughout, we reached out to lodging properties and other partners for feedback on cancellations and immediate concerns. We quickly communicated anecdotal evidence, suggesting that many skiers and snowboarders spent more time on Main Street and other off-mountain experiences, including spas and recreation outfitters. We gauged rapidly evolving lodging data, and this week our tracking of future bookings, starting with Sundance, suggests strong hotel reservations pacing ahead of last year and extending through the spring ski season. Though lodging data like this arrives relatively quickly, we await other indicators of economic activity during the strike, such as sales and transient room tax data, which will not be available for many weeks.Naturally, visitor inquiries increased during the strike, and we made sure to remind guests of the incredible variety of activities available in Park City and the world-class service our entire community offers. We also kept an eye on media coverage throughout the strike. The extensive national reporting of the strike’s resolution is a positive for Park City, reassuring our guests as the prime booking windows for Presidents’ Day weekend and spring break open up. If necessary, we are prepared to increase marketing in critical target markets. Our partners and our board of directors join me in our deep appreciation for the hard work of everyone involved in bringing the strike to a mutually satisfactory conclusion, especially the staff and the local resort leadership team, who worked hard to maintain operations, ensure as much terrain as possible was open, keep guests safe and encourage employees. We will continue to monitor the data points that paint the picture of our season, and we are prepared to act as necessary to ensure that we finish strong and united. In the meantime, it’s great to have Park City Mountain hitting on all cylinders again. We are looking forward to the Sundance Film Festival and FIS World Cup and the opportunity to showcase the natural beauty and all the things that make Park City so special.Jennifer Wesselhoff is the president and CEO of the Park City Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. The post Park City Pulse: Chamber stayed engaged during strike appeared first on Park Record.
