LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Good morning and bundle up! The coldest temperatures so far this season greet us on this frigid Wednesday morning, with lows in the single digits to low teens across the region. Highs this afternoon will struggle, only reaching the low-to-mid 20s despite partly sunny skies. Make sure to dress warmly if you’re heading out! Overnight, temperatures will dip back into the teens by midnight, but increasing cloud cover and a southwesterly breeze will cause temperatures to climb slightly into the low 20s by the Thursday morning commute. However, this breeze will make it feel even colder, with wind chills in the teens. On Thursday, a weak clipper system passing to our northeast could bring a few light snow showers, mainly across eastern Kentucky. Accumulations will be minimal, if any. Highs will top out in the mid-30s, with partly cloudy skies and continued breezy conditions. As we head into Friday and Saturday, expect slightly milder temperatures, with highs climbing into the low 40s. Rain will move in late Friday night into Saturday as a more significant system tracks through the area. As colder air arrives behind this system, rain will transition to light snow Saturday night into early Sunday. While any snow accumulations are expected to remain light, stay tuned for updates as the weekend approaches. Looking ahead to early next week, much colder air will settle in, bringing highs only in the teens to low 20s on Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows could dip into the single digits, with wind chills nearing or even dropping below zero. While skies will be mostly clear, the bitterly cold conditions will stick around for the start of the workweek. Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates on this active weather pattern.
