CHOWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A Hertford man has been charged in connection to a shooting that injured a woman at a Chowan County Family Dollar Sunday, the Chowan County Sheriff's Office said. The Family Dollar on Virginia Road in the Valhalla area of the county was the scene of a shooting around 4:30 p.m., the sheriff's office said. Deputies were sent to the Family Dollar, and when they arrived, they found a victim, Chrisie Sumpter, who they said had been shot with a .25-caliber handgun, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect, Johnathan Lee Fisher of Hertford, had left the scene but was later arrested and held in the Chowan County Detention Center under no bond, the sheriff's office said. Fisher has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious bodily injury. The sheriff's office said Sumpter is expected to recover from the injuries she suffered in the shooting. "The Chowan County Sheriff's Office assures the public that this is an isolated incident," it said in a news release. "This shooting was the result of preexisting conflicts that culminated in Sumpter being shot in the parking lot of the Family Dollar."
