(WFRV) - Wisconsin's frozen road laws will be in effect for the entire state starting Thursday, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reminding motorists of the implications. Back in December, WisDOT announced the beginning of frozen road laws in northern Wisconsin, but on January 16 the laws will go into effect for the entire state. Frozen road laws allow heavier loads for trucks carrying logs cut crosswise (not including woodchips), and salt and sand for winter maintenance while cold weather allows. The seasonal weight restriction program is one way to protect Wisconsin’s investments in roads, officials say. To determine when roads are adequately frozen, WisDOT and county highway personnel monitor temperature forecasts and use frost tubes — liquid-filled devices embedded under the pavement.
