Jan 15, 2025
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - With the NFL's wild-card weekend officially over, six more teams, including the Packers, have their draft position locked in.
As Green Bay looks to host the NFL draft which is now officially less than 100 days away, a 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and the Vikings' loss to the Rams on Monday has them slotted to make a selection with the 23rd overall pick.
REPORT: Packers long-time quarterbacks coach retiring
There are now going to be conversations amongst fans and experts on what the Packers could and should do with the 23rd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The first question to answer is whether or not the Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst will stay put at No. 23 or if he'll look to make a move up or down in the overall order.
Since 2017, Green Bay has traded out of their original 1st round draft spot four times and in three out of the first four years under Gutekunst's lead, with the most notable instance coming in the 2020 draft when the Packers traded picks No. 30 and No. 136 to move up to No. 26 and select, the now starting quarterback, Jordan Love.
Other first-round trades the Packers have made since 2017 are as follows:
2017: Packers trade pick No. 29 for picks No. 33 (Kevin King) and No. 108 (Vince Biegel)
2018: Packers trade pick No. 14 for picks No. 27, No. 147, and a 2019 first-rounder. Packers then trade in the first round again, this time trading picks No. 27, No. 76, and No. 186 for picks No. 18 (Jaire Alexander) and No. 248 (Kendall Donnerson)
2019: Packers trade picks No. 30, No. 114, and No. 118 for pick No. 21 (Darnell Savage)
2022: Packers trade wide receiver Davante Adams for pick No .22 (Quay Walker) and a second-rounder later traded again.
2023: Packers trade quarterback Aaron Rodgers and picks No. 15 and No. 170 for picks No. 13 (Lukas Van Ness), No. 42 (Luke Musgrave), No. 207 (Anders Carlson), and a conditional 2024 second-round pick.
In three of the last four drafts, the Packers have stayed put at their original picks, selecting cornerback Eric Stokes at pick No. 29 in 2021, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt at pick No. 28 in 2022, and offensive lineman Jordan Morgan at pick No. 25 in 2024.
If the Packers choose to stay at pick No. 23, it would be only the fourth time in franchise history that they selected a player at No. 23, with the most recent occurrence coming in 2010 with the selection of offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga.
The two other times the Packers used pick No. 23 include the selections of Irv Comp in the third round of the 1943 draft and offensive tackle Mark Koncar in the first round of the 1976 draft.
As the Packers' top executives prepare for the draft, local businesses throughout the Green Bay area are shifting their focus to the big event as it's now less than 100 days away.
We’re fully turning our calendar pages and are ready to start planning some great activations here for the community. We’ve got a lot of great plans, but our emphasis is going to be on this fun party in our south parking lot. We’re right across the street from the draft grounds, and I think it’s going to be a great time.
Abigail Malcolm, Lodge Kohler Green Bay meetings and events manager
Malcolm adds that while Lodge Kohler will not have rooms available to the public, they will have an accessible beer garden in the south parking lot that will also feature a VIP section for executives looking to host clients.
