TMB suspends Texas doctor after testing positive for cocaine
Jan 15, 2025
HOUSTON, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Medical Board has temporarily suspended the medical license of a Houston doctor for "appearing impaired" during several surgeries.
Dr. Nathan Robert Starke was temporarily suspended Dec. 20, 2024 after the board determined he posed a threat to the public welfare.
According to the TMB, Starke participated in several surgeries between August and September 2024 while appearing under the influence. On Sept. 6 Houston Methodist suspended the doctor. The next month he tested positive for cocaine.
Dr. Starke signed an Interim Monitoring Agreement with TMB but did not begin testing.
A temporary suspension hearing will be held as soon as practicable with 10 days' notice to Dr. Starke.
Until the board decides to take further action, Starke will remain suspended.
