WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Protesters interrupted the Senate confirmation hearing for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) who is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be secretary of state. Sen. Rubio was disrupted multiple times while giving his opening statement on Wednesday. One protester yelled in Spanish to which Rubio joked, “I get bilingual protesters.” The protesters were promptly escorted out by Capitol police. Rubio is appearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to face questions from senators ahead of a committee vote and final Senate vote on his nomination for secretary of state. If confirmed, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would have to pick someone to fill Rubio’s seat in the Senate.
