Annual Fruitcake Toss: Prepare to pitch your fruitcakes
Jan 15, 2025
(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — Did Aunt Bertha gift you an unwanted fruitcake over the holidays? Then get ready to test your fruitcake-chucking skills. The City of Manitou Springs is hosting the 30th Annual Great Fruitcake Toss on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Competitors can choose from four competitions to test their fruitcake-sporting prowess, including the new "BasketCake." For those bringing their own fruitcakes, it costs one dollar to take part in each competition. If anyone's Aunt Bertha didn't come through with a fruitcake gift this year, they can still take part in the competitions by borrowing a cake for five dollars, with four tosses included.
Additional throws are available for one dollar each, or entrants can bring a non-perishable food item for the Manitou Spring Community Food Pantry instead. Each canned item scores one ticket, with a maximum of 10 tickets per family.
Fruitcakes must weigh one pound, be rectangular in shape, contain glacéed fruits, nuts, and flour, and cannot contain anything non-edible. "Fruitcake Tech Inspectors" will be on-site to examine outside fruitcakes and ensure no fruitcake imposters.
Other fun activities will be available, such as fruitcake rock painting with the Pikes Peak Library District, and Cool Science will host a catapult-making station.
The event takes place in Manitou Springs at Memorial Park, 502 Manitou Avenue. For more information, click on the link above.
