AM Headlines: Bitter Cold Breezy, Mountain Snow Thursday Weekend Rain Deep Freeze Next Week Discussion: Arctic high pressure is dominating the forecast bringing crystal clear skies and bone dry air to the region. Highs will range from the upper 20s in the mountains to low 40s across the Piedmont with lows falling into the mid teens to low 20s tonight. A shortwave will bring upslope snow to the mountains Thursday. Snowfall totals will range from 1-3 inches for the highest elevations with gusts up to 35 mph possible. It will be breezy everywhere else with highs bouncing back into the low 50s, but with the wind it will still feel chilly. Gulf moisture will spill into the region ahead of a cold front this weekend. This will bring a wintry mix to the mountains and a cold rain for everywhere west. Next week prepare for the coldest temperatures of the season. This deep freeze will lock in temperatures 15-25 degrees below average. Daytime highs will struggle to get above freezing Tuesday.
