MLK Fest bringing service projects, block party to Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Walls Project in Baton Rouge will soon host its annual MLK Festival of Service, which will be held from Jan. 17 to 20.
The festival will honor the late Civil Rights leader, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The federal holiday is Jan. 20.
The events promote revitalization, volunteerism, and resource sharing in underserved Baton Rouge communities.

Friday, Jan. 17
OneRouge Summit: Explore the Nine Drivers of Poverty with local leaders.
Baton Roots Green Activity & Giveaway: This is a gardening volunteer activity and a free green giveaway.
Futures Fund Digital Literacy Summit: Strengthening tech skills and providing laptops to qualified participants.
Saturday, Jan. 18
MLK Fest Volunteering: This event will have painting, garden bed refreshes, and trash cleanup (morning and afternoon shifts).
Monday, Jan. 20
MLK Fest Volunteering: Finalizing projects in the morning.
Block Party & Resource Fair: This event will feature entertainment, guest speakers, and a free recycled paint giveaway to continue community beautification efforts.
