PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor will face a trial board Wednesday to figure out the next step in the disciplinary process. Proctor was the lead investigator during Karen Read’s first trial, which resulted in a mistrial. According to the district attorneys office, Proctor faces allegations of misconduct in the performance of his duties with MSP. Proctor was relieved from duty back in July of 2024 and was suspended without pay. During Karen Read’s first trial, Proctor was questioned about messages he sent to other officers using unprofessional and expletive language. Karen Read’s defense argued Proctor’s testimony and evidence in the case showed bias in the investigation. Proctor was immediately relieved from duty after the mistrial in Karen Read’s case was announced. Karen Read is accused of hitting and killing her boyfriend and Boston police officer, John O’Keefe with her SUV. Read’s second trial is expected to begin in April. Following Proctor’s hearing with the state police trial board, the board will make disciplinary recommendations to the superintendent who will determine the final outcome.
