Coldest of the season, tracking a warmup
Jan 15, 2025
Temperatures have fallen to their coldest levels of the season so far. We have dropped to 2° in Indianapolis Wednesday morning. Previously, our coldest of the season was 5°, which we experienced last week. Many locations are even colder this morning with air temperatures that have fallen well below zero.
We will see plenty of sunshine around today but temperatures will remain cold. High temperatures will peak in the upper teens with wind chills in the single digits.
Clouds increase this evening and temperatures will fall to the lower teens late this evening and then start to rise through the overnight hours.
Another shot of snow will slide over the state Thursday morning. This will primarily impact areas along and north of I-70 but a few snow showers sliding a little farther south will be possible. This will be another fluffy snow with light accumulations of a few tenths of an inch will be possible. Winds will be breezy and this will lead to blowing snow across our roadways. Be cautious of additional slick spots developing. A few flurries and isolated snow showers will remain possible into the afternoon.
Our cold air briefly retreats over the next couple of days. We will be near 40° by Friday with rain chances late Friday into early Saturday. A few snowflakes may mix in by Saturday morning. Brace yourselves for a stronger push of arctic air late this weekend into next week. Multiple mornings below zero are looking likely.
