HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A cold front is expected to pass north of the islands Thursday and Friday. Kona winds are expected to replace the trade winds and usher in showers during this time period. Although most of the heavy rain will remain north, some heavy showers are possible Thursday and Friday afternoon. Trade winds and drier conditions will return to the state this weekend. Expect a weak cold front to move through the islands Thursday night and Friday. Cooler and drier air will follow the front. Winds will increase, especially Friday night and Saturday. There's a chance of showers, possibly with thunder, mainly on Maui and the Big Island. Mountain tops could see wintry weather. Over the weekend: Breezy trade winds will develop. Conditions will be mostly dry. Occasional showers may occur in windward areas, especially at night.
