WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A D.C. nightclub is facing backlash for promoting its "Kiddie Brunch" on social media. The Upper Room DC on H Street NE posted a video on social media showing children participating in what appears to be a nightclub experience at a brunch. The video on social media - and reaction posts - has gone viral since its initial post in early December. The owner of the bar said the promotion started last month. ‘The result of this fire could have been different’: 8 displaced by fire at Woodbridge home The video shows the children exiting a Cybertruck and going inside the bar where they ate, drank bottles of apple cider poured by staff in a style resembling alcohol, and danced. "I don't think that that's somewhere that atmosphere that kids need to be exposed to," Olivia Walker said after viewing the video. Michael Cruz called the video "a little shocking." "I think it's kind of inappropriate to encourage young minds drinking and partying and having bottle girls. It doesn't sit right with me, to be honest," he said. Shaye Sherod, owner of The Upper Room, told DC News Now that she is not concerned with the online comments because she knows the event intends to bring children joy. She said she hopes it can be a fun experience, offered weekly, for kids like her son. Nigel Davis agrees. "Oftentimes in commercials, adults will put kids in more adult settings just for comedy purposes," he said. I think that's just what that is. It could be interpreted in a bad way, but I think it's all just fun and games." Cruz said he would not want his child to attend. "It's encouraging drinking, it's encouraging partying," he said. "I personally would not want my kid there, but each parent would make their own decision."
