FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Charges have been filed against a man allegedly driving under the influence in a crash that killed four people, the Fresno County District Attorney's Office said. The DA says it is alleged that Sean Allen Larry Guynes, 32, of Kerman, was driving his Ford E350 southbound on North Floyd Avenue at the intersection of West Shaw Avenue in the evening hours of Jan. 10, when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic and pulled his van into the path of a Nissan Altima driving westbound. According to officials, the crash caused both vehicles to ignite, ending with the lives of two people from the Altima and two from the Ford. Although the California Highway Patrol previously reported one of the drivers killed was the driver of the Ford, the DA said Tuesday an investigation by CHP revealed that Gyunes had provided false information about being a passenger in his van and that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. The DA's office says it was also clear from his contact that evening with various law enforcement agencies that he was "noticeably intoxicated." The DA adds Guynes was previously convicted of driving under the influence in 2018 in Fresno County, and he was advised by the court that driving under the influence was dangerous to human life and that if he continued to drive impaired and as a result a person was killed, he could be charged with murder. Per the DA, the Felony Complaint filed in the Superior Court charges Sean Allen Larry Guynes with six counts: Four counts of murder. One count of failing to perform a duty following a fatal collision. One count of driving with a suspended license from a prior DUI conviction and causing injury. If convicted, Guynes faces a maximum sentence of four years plus 60 years to life in state prison. The DA says he remains in custody and is scheduled for arrangement on Wednesday.
