Fresno company fights wildfires with cardboard boxes

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Caylym Technologies in Fresno has been helping firefighters with their Guardian system for more than a decade.
They did not speak with us to criticize firefighters or any service member but instead offer a different perspective on how to tackle the ongoing fires seen in today's world.
Their Guardian system is made of mostly cardboard and holds 264 gallons of water.
It can be dropped from most planes and helicopters and is currently being used in 17 countries around the world.
“In other countries, they wanted a surge capabilities without having to modify an airplane so our system allows them to drop on a fire go do another emergency mission and come back and drop on fire,” said CEO Rick Goddard.
But their system is not currently used in the United States.
Over the years, Goddard has received multiple responses from U.S government agencies denying them the ability to help.
He says that is disappointing because their system is built to operate during high winds and also at night which can make all the difference in wildfires.
“We deliver from a higher altitude from 500 to a thousand feet we can deliver in high winds and 24 hours a day we can take back the night,” said Goddard.
As a former marine, Goddard says he would like to serve his country again this time helping firefighters save homes and lives.
“We just expand the toolbox that's what we do," said Goddard.
