WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Wichita police chief and others from the Wichita Police Department hosted a community input session on their gunshot detection policy.
The department said in 2024 that they wanted to expand it, which received pushback from some over its efficiency. Some in the community say they support it.
"We get answers in real time we're able to the police department are able to get a foothold on gunshots when they happen, when they're heard, and it gives us another eyewitness quote unquote gives us another source of information," said Odell Harris Jr., pastor and chairman of the Citizen's Review Board.
WPD started testing gunshot sensors in February 2022.
