LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A women's athletic clothing store at the Longmeadow Shops is expected to close its doors. 'Athleta' announced it is closing. The store at 724 Bliss Road first opened back in 2021. The outdoor shopping mall announced on Instagram that Athleta will be closing on January 31st. The post said a fixture sale is happening before the store shuts down. They are selling their tables, nesting benches, hangers, and hardware. All sales are final, and there won't be any delivery options. The owner of a neighboring business expressed sadness about the closure. "We were all very surprised. We had, like, a phenomenal holiday season, and a great Black Friday," says Leah Kenney, Owner of The Shot Shop. "They're wonderful to work for. I'm in medical rejuvenation myself, so the more people that are out there doing things for wellness, the better. So we were very surprised." While Athleta is closing its doors, Kenney said she is looking forward to a new business coming.She hopes to see another business promoting wellness or another type of store fill its place in the near future.
