BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Recycling might become a little more expensive in the capitol city. And the City commission is meeting tonight to discuss a potential fee increase. The fee increase is part of a contractual deal with the City of Bismarck and Waste Management. Waste Management provides curbside recycling services throughout the city. Officials say that in this deal, there is a clause that in 2025, Waste Management will request a fee increase to help accommodate increased expenses. Bismarck school board approves new bus system for 2025-2026 The proposed increase is currently 36 cents. However, tonight's meeting will determine whether this amount is approved by the city. Even so, officials say that people can do their part to keep prices low. "Because anytime you have a contaminated load, then they have to sort through it and that costs additional dollars, so if you only recycle the things that are supposed to be recycled, things go a lot smoother, and it'll keep the cost lower," says Steve Salwei, the City of Bismarck's service operations director.
