St. George city council approve mayor, police chief salaries in Tuesday meeting

ST. GEORGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- St. George city council members approved salaries for city leaders at a Tuesday meeting.
City of St. George ordinance documents show proposed salaries for local leaders. The ordinance was first introduced on Dec. 10. If approved, the ordinance goes into effect on July 1 of this year.
According to the proposal, $175,000 in pay is proposed for the mayor, $150,000 for the chief of police and $44,000 for each council member.
After a vote, the mayor's salary will be set at $160,000, the police chief's salary is $140,000 and council members will get $36,000.
The annual cost of living was also raised by 2%.
Interim Mayor Dustin Yates and Interim Police Chief Todd Morris recently announced their candidacy for full terms. Election Day will be on March 29.
