AUSTIN (KXAN) -- An Austin Police Department officer has been placed on administrative leave following a shooting that happened in Lockhart over the weekend, the agency said in a news release Wednesday. Police said they shot their department-approved firearm during the shooting. The Caldwell County District Attorney's Office has requested for materials not to be released throughout the course of the investigation, according to police. The DA's office said the shooting would "not be treated as an APD Critical Incident Briefing (CBD)." When APD officers are involved in shootings, the agency releases officer body-worn camera footage to the public within 10 days, per APD protocol. APD officer shoots suspect while assisting Lockhart police with arrest Initially, the Lockhart Police Department said officers responded to the 900 block of South Brazos Street around 3 p.m. Saturday, after a 911 call reported a physical assault. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a victim with a gunshot wound, who was then taken to a local hospital and released. According to LPD, the suspect shot the victim and then left the area. The Austin Police Department’s SWAT assisted the Lockhart Police Department with a barricaded subject that led to an officer-involved shooting in the 900 block of 1st Street in Lockhart. (KXAN News/Todd Bynum) After the suspect was found, APD SWAT was called to assist around 5 p.m. in the 900 block of South First Street in Lockhart. The suspect was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. No officers were injured during the shooting. APD's SWAT team "routinely assists other agencies when called for mutual aid," the release said. Police said there will be two concurrent investigations into the shooting, which includes a criminal investigation that will be conducted by Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers, along with the Caldwell County District Attorney's Office. The second investigation will be conducted by APD's Internal Affairs Unit, which will include oversight from the Office of Police Oversight. The case remained under investigation Wednesday.
