Trae Young scored 43 points and Onyeka Okongwu added 22 points and 21 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks beat the Phoenix Suns 122-117 at State Farm Arena on Tuesday night. This was the Hawks first game after Sunday’s game against the Houston Rockets was postponed due to inclement weather. Young’s 43 points is a season-high. Even though Young leads the league in assists, Hawks head coach Quin Snyder says he does not want to overly rely on Young before tonight. However, when called upon, Young stepped up.“You know, I’ve heard a lot about his shot attempts being down,” said Hawks head coach Quin Snyder. “It’s credit to him that that hasn’t bothered him at all. It’s one of those things if you look at a statue, you notice he leads the league in assists. And he’s not shooting as many shots because he’s distributing more, but he’s also scoring when we need him to score.”Notably, Jalen Johnson and De’Andre Hunter were both out with shoulder and foot injuries, respectively.“So I think the fact that our group came together tonight and we played the way we did, I thought we were a really connected group,” explained Snyder. “We executed the game plan.”The Hawks needed this win after a 2-4 road trip which featured games at Denver, the Lakers, the Clippers and the Suns. “I’m not going to get 12 assists every night,” said Young. “But sometimes I’ll have 20, and sometimes I have five, and that’s perfectly fine, as long as we get the win at the end of the day.”The Hawks will get back on the road tomorrow night as they face the Chicago Bulls. This three-game road trip includes games against the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics. The post Trae Young’s 43-point night propels Hawks past Suns 122-117 appeared first on The Atlanta Voice.
