President-elect Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) met for a round of golf on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the matter, as the Florida governor mulls a replacement for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Trump’s secretary of State nominee. A number of names have been floated for the post, including Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R), Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez (R) and the governor's chief of staff James Uthmeier. Sources familiar with the discussions say Moody is considered the front-runner for the position. DeSantis is expected to decide around the time of Trump’s inauguration. Rubio is one of several Trump nominees who have confirmation hearings scheduled for Wednesday.  The golf summit also follows DeSantis’s move to call for a special state legislative session on Jan. 27 to implement Trump’s immigration agenda.  Trump thanked the governor, his former GOP presidential primary rival, in a post on the social platform X earlier Tuesday, but DeSantis faced backlash from state Republican leaders in the Legislature. State Senate President Ben Albritton (R) and state House Speaker Daniel Perez (R) called the move “premature” in a letter to the state’s lawmakers.  DeSantis responded to the criticism in a post on X, saying “State and local officials in Florida will actively facilitate the Trump Administration’s policies against illegal immigration, and to do that we need to immediately set aside and approve the necessary funding and resources now.
