San Diego Gas & Electric more than doubled the number of customers whose power has been shut off on Tuesday as Santa Ana winds began booming inland and spreading to coastal areas. Through 1:45 p.m., 5,620 customers had lost power and more than 49,000 were on notice that the same could happen to them. The outage primarily affects customers in Alpine, Boulevard, Campo, Campo Reservation, Descanso, Julian and La Posta Reservation. Winds have gusted to 74 mph at Sill Hill, a spot in the Cuyamaca Mountains, 51 mph in Alpine, 40 mph at Ramona Airport, and 39 mph on Sunrise Highway. There also have been gusts 28 mph at Camp Pendleton, 20 mph at Carlsbad, and 15 mph at Leucadia. relative humidity across much of the county is in the 9% to 13% range. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag fire weather for areas east of Interstate 15 until 6 p.m. Wednesday. The outages came as fire crews knocked down a small brush fire in Ramona that ignited early Tuesday and briefly threatened a home. The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. near Pamo Road and West Haveford Road. “Firefighters are making good progress and the forward rate of spread has been stopped,” Cal Fire Capt. Robert Johnson said shortly after 7 a.m. He said no structures were damaged, and there were no reports of injuries. Crews were expected to remain on scene for two to three hours to ensure there weren’t any hot spots. Fire officials initially reported the blaze had charred around 10 acres, but Johnson said it likely was around 5 acres. Two fire investigators were trying to determine what sparked the blaze, Johnson said. On Monday, a wildfire burned 12 acres at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar before it was put out.
