SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Authorities released more details Tuesday regarding a deadly shooting involving San Diego police officers and a man armed with a knife that took place in the East Village Monday evening. Around 6:54 p.m. Monday, officers received a call regarding a suicidal man at an apartment complex located at 1150 E. St., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The caller had told police that his roommate had swallowed pills and attempted suicide with a knife, authorities said. PREVIOUS: Man armed with knife killed in shooting involving officers After two officers arrived, six other people were safely led out of the apartment before they confronted the 26-year-old man who was holding a knife, said Lt. Mike Krugh with SDSO. The man threatened the officers and was ordered to drop the knife before the shooting occurred, Lt. Krugh added. Both officers fired their weapons, according to Lt. Krugh. After the shooting, officers immediately began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, according to authorities. The man was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. No officers were injured during the incident, Lt. Krugh said. Both officers who were present during the shooting have been with SDPD for more than four years and were assigned to patrol at the Central Division at the time. Detectives with the SDSO Homicide Unit are currently investigating the circumstances of the shooting. When they complete their investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office will determine whether the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions. Meanwhile, SDPD will conduct an administrative investigation into the officers' discharge of their firearms, authorities said.
