SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Midfielder Jaedyn Shaw has been traded by the San Diego Wave FC to the North Carolina Courage, the football club announced Tuesday.
The club said it has acquired $300,000 in allocation money as well as $150,000 in intra-league transfer funds and an international slot for the upcoming two seasons in exchange for Shaw.
Shaw joined the Wave through the National Women's Soccer League Discovery Process in 2022, signing her first professional contract when she was just 17 years old.

On July 30, 2022, she became the youngest player in the league to score in her debut game. Also in 2022, she was named the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year. In 2024, Shaw was part of the roster that won gold during the Paris Olympics, although she had to sit out during the games due to a leg injury.
Since joining the Wave, Shaw has appeared in 61 games, earned 14 goals and 4 assists.
"I got the opportunity to take a leap of faith in my career and start a new chapter. With that being said, I want to start off by saying thank you so much to San Diego Wave for believing in me and taking a chance on a little 17-year-old," Shaw said in a video posted to the club's Instagram page.
"The opportunity to pursue a new chapter is bittersweet, but I am excited about what lies ahead," Shaw added in a statement.
This comes just less than two weeks after the Wave announced on Jan. 3 it had parted ways with midfielder Emily van Egmond.
Shaw requested a trade last season, according to a report by the Associated Press.
