VALLEJO, Calif. (KRON) -- A four-year-old girl remains in critical condition after being struck by at least one bullet in Vallejo. The child was an innocent bystander when gunfire was exchanged on Sunday night.
Vallejo police sergeant Rashad Hollis says patrol officers on special assignment in the Crest neighborhood heard gunshots near Sawyer Street and Mark Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. Longtime neighbor J. Little heard the rapid sounds too -- initially thinking they were firecrackers.

"Yeah, every now and then it gets pretty wild, you know what I mean," J. Little said.
Officers responded and found dozens of shell casings but no victims.
"Moments later, our operators received a call from a local hospital reporting that a young juvenile was walked into their emergency department, suffering from at least one gunshot wound and placed in critical condition," Hollis said.
Neighbors who were at the scene during the aftermath believe the four-year-old girl was with her family driving through the Crest community when the shooting happened.
However, Hollis will only confirm she was outside during the incident.
"Right now, we're still in the prelim of our investigation, so we don't have a motive or circumstances just as of this moment," Hollis said.
"We just want the crime to go away," neighbor J. Little said.
J. Little lives with and cares for his elderly mother in the Crest neighborhood. He says crime comes in waves and hopes this does not signify an uptick in violence.
"Sometimes it don't even be us," he said. "It just be people driving through and cut into this little neighborhood and they little business as far as they crime and then they cut out, but they make it look like, you know, it's us doing this in our own neighborhood."
