Meta to fire employees who are deemed ‘lowperformers’: report
Jan 14, 2025
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Thousands of employees who work for Meta, a social media tech giant headquartered in Menlo Park, are facing layoffs based on their job performance, according to reports.
Meta plans to cut 5 percent of its workforce, roughly 3,600 employees, by mid-February, Bloomberg reported Tuesday
"I’ve decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out low-performers faster," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a message to his staff and printed by Bloomberg. "We typically manage out people who aren’t meeting expectations over the course of a year, but now we’re going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle."

Meta's latest layoff follows a previous round of terminations in October, when staffing cuts were made to the company's WhatsApp and Instagram platforms, as well as its virtual reality technology unit Reality Labs.
Meta did not immediately respond to KRON4's request for comment Tuesday.
Microsoft is also planning to initiate performance-based job cuts across multiple departments.
"At Microsoft we focus on high-performance talent," a Microsoft spokesperson wrote in an email cited by CNBC. "We are always working on helping people learn and grow. When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action."
