WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Wichita has ranked in the top 50 large cities for economic growth in 2025. The Milken Institute, a non-profit think tank, released its 2025 Best-Performing Cities report Tuesday. The report uses 13 metrics combining labor market conditions, high-tech industry growth, and access to economic opportunities to collect a snapshot of how 403 U.S. metropolitan areas are performing economically. Wichita came in at 43 for 2025 among large cities. Last year, it placed 88; in 2023, it came in at 154 among large cities. Wichita gets more Delta flights north and east The Wichita metro area isn't the only Kansas city on the list. Lawrence placed 15th among small cities, climbing from 30th in 2024 and 159th in 2023. Topeka is ranked 28th compared to 81st in 2024 and 117th in 2023. Manhattan is ranked 43, a decline from their position in 2024 of 27, but still much better performing than 2023 when they came in at 127th.
