WALTERBORO, S.C. (WSAV) — A former Hampton County deputy has been arrested and charged after he reportedly pointed a firearm at a person while in uniform.
Donavon Quentin Sanders, 27, was charged with misconduct in office and assault and battery in the first degree on Jan. 3, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) reported.
The charges stem from an Oct. 8, 2024, incident where Sanders allegedly pointed a personal firearm at a person while in uniform and verbally threatened them. SLED said that his actions were in breach of his duty.
Sanders was booked into the Hampton Detention Center, and his case will be prosecuted by the Public Integrity Unit.
The investigation was requested by the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office.
