$3.9 million in federal funding to expand pharmaceutical workforce training programs in Richmond, Petersburg area

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Nearly $4 million in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan will go to the Community College Workforce Alliance to expand regional workforce training programs in pharmaceutical manufacturing and biotechnology.
This comes through an announcement by U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
According to a release from the Office of Senator Tim Kaine, $3.9 million will go to expanding workforce training programs to support the Richmond-Petersburg Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing cluster, which manufactures critical drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
The funding was allocated through the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Good Jobs Challenge.
