CENTRAL FALLS, RI (WLNE) — The Children’s Workshop Foundation and Child Builders ABA celebrated the opening of a new support classroom in Central Falls. On Tuesday, the new “step-out space” was opened to help children “be as successful as they can be in their environment,” Child Builders ABA Clinical Director Gina Parise said. “By doing so here we’re able to keep them with their same-aged peers, but also be able to provide them with additional support,” Parise said. The new classroom was built in the Central Falls’ Children’s Workshop Foundation’s childcare center, which provides education for infants and children from six weeks old to 12 years old. “This classroom was designed to calm them,” Children’s Workshop Foundation Executive Director Erin Van Durme said. “Basically to reset them to go back into their normal day classroom with their fellow students.” The new “step-out space” was created to provide individualized behavior interventions, designed specifically to help children transition back into their regular classrooms. “We take them out of the classroom so that they can emotionally settle down and reacclimate back into their classroom,” Van Durme said. With bright colors and sensory items to help with the process, the space is very similar to other classrooms in the building. “We are set up in a similar way of every other classroom in this building,” Parise said. “It’s more about being able to use the items in this classroom and have a space where there aren’t as many kids.” The new space was brought to life with the support of Alex Rumpler from Child Builders ABA, who helped outfit the room and front the cost of building the space.
