BERKLEY, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police said one person is dead after a crash on Route 24 South on Tuesday. Just before 1 p.m., police said a vehicle struck an unoccupied truck that was parked in the breakdown lane, which belonged to nearby work crew on the highway. MSP said the driver of the vehicle died from their injuries. At the start of the investigation, MassDOT closed all lanes of the highway. MSP said the left lane is now open to traffic. It is estimated that there is a four mile traffic back-up on Route 24 at the intersection of Route 140 due to the accident, according to MassDOT. MassDOT advises drivers to find alternate routes since back-ups are expected to continue into the evening. The accident is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
