Oklahoma Pioneer, Dr. Stephen Grisson passes

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) confirmed on Tuesday the passing of Dr. Stephen Grissom, who was dedicated to improving outcomes for Oklahoma's youth.
According to OJA, Dr. Grissom was first appointed to both the OJA Board and State Advisory Group in 2017 after years of service as OJA’s Chief Psychologist.

Dr. Grissom's commitment and understanding of adolescent development is a staple in Oklahoma State's vulnerable young population, says OJA leadership.
“Dr. Grissom’s legacy is one of transformation and hope,” said OJA Executive Director Timothy Tardibono. “He believed in the potential of every young person, regardless of their circumstances, and his work has left an indelible mark on our agency and the lives of countless youth and families. Additionally, Dr. Grissom’s work as a professor has touched numerous students that are now professionals carrying on his pioneering spirit to provide excellent care for Oklahoma’s youth.”

As Chief Psychologist for OJA, Dr. Grissom played a critical role in advancing trauma-informed care practices and implementing evidence-based strategies, said OJA.
Colleagues say, Dr. Grissom will be remembered for his accomplishments and generous spirit as a mentor, visionary and friend to many who shared his commitment to better the lives of Oklahoma's youth.
OJA confirms plans for a memorial or celebration of life are forthcoming while the agency looks to explore ways seeking to honor Dr. Grissom’s legacy that reflect his values and vision.
