Jan 14, 2025
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — With more than 4.8 million travelers passing through Norfolk International Airport in 2024, business is flying high, and at record-levels, as a multimillion-dollar expansion project is underway.
The number of travelers coming through Norfolk International is a record for the airport, and up 6.9% over the previous year, equating to 310,000 more passengers than it had in 2023.
“It's fantastic,” said Mark Perryman, president and CEO of Norfolk International Airport. “I mean, we couldn't ask for a better scenario, ... coming out of the COVID pandemic, having three consecutive years of rapid growth.”

Perryman credits the continued growth to the added airlines and routes.
“We're now up to 45 destinations in 41 cities," he said. "This is a great position for us to be at the airport. We're serving as many destinations as airports that are twice our size and three times our size.”
He said the advanced numbers right now are looking good.
“The seats that are being offered by the airlines are above last year," Perryman said. "So they're actually hopeful that they're going to sell more seats coming in and out of Norfolk."
A lot of renovations are slowly getting completed, with one of the moving walkways set to open at the end of the month. Plus, it’s looking to break ground on the hotel late this winter or early spring.
