(WGNO) — A St. James Parish high school student accused of having a gun on school property was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Homicide investigation underway after remains found in Desire neighborhood The St. James Parish Sheriff's Office reported that deputies were made aware of a photo of a student in the school locker room with a gun in his waistband from December 2024 that surfaced. During the investigation, deputies said they identified the student as 17-year-old Da'Shaun Johnson and spoke with him when he arrived at the school. New Orleans drug bust leads to four arrests According to the sheriff's office, Johnson "alleges the weapon was a BB pistol." However, deputies say they were not able to verify the claim. Johnson was arrested and faces charges of carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or nonstudent on school property and unlawful sale, purchase or possession of tobacco, alternative nicotine products or vapor products by a person under 21.
