Texas man arrested in LaPlace, accused of manslaughter

LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — A Texas manslaughter suspect was arrested in LaPlace on Jan. 13.
St. James Parish student arrested, accused of having gun on school property
According to the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Lawalter Brown has been on the run from authorities in Killeen, Texas since 2022. Since that time, he has been wanted on several felony warrants for manslaughter and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, members of the sheriff's office's SWAT team arrested Brown in the 400 block of Marvin Gardens. Authorities believe he had been hiding in St. John Parish and using different aliases for around a year and allegedly tried to deceive officers while he was being arrested.
Brown's location was reportedly provided by a Crimestoppers tip. He is now being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility while awaiting extradition to Texas.
