GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A year has passed since a Triad woman vanished in Greensboro following a night out. Twenty-five-year-old Marissa Carmichael was last seen at an Exxon gas station in Greensboro on Jan. 14, 2024. Just before 4 a.m., she called 911 to report that her phone had been stolen and she’d been left at the gas station on East Market Street. “I don’t know where I am in Greensboro,” she said in the 911 call. “I just got all my stuff thrown out the car. He took off with my phone, and I have no clue where I’m at.” The Greensboro Police Department and Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers have shared posts on Facebook seeking help locating 25-year-old Marissa Kay Carmichael. When police got to the scene around 4:21 a.m., Marissa was gone. Her family says it is not like her to not be in contact. She has five children. Surveillance footage showed Marissa getting into someone’s car and leaving the station. Police identified and interviewed that person, who they consider a witness in the case. “It’s rough, especially during the holidays,” her friend Jamil Ismail told FOX8 in November. "The first Thanksgiving with Christmas coming around. It’s unimaginable … She always went back to her kids no matter when she went out." “I think she trusted the wrong person or … something was set up to happen,” Sara Carmichael, Marissa’s mother, said when her daughter disappeared. “I’ll have my moments where I fall apart, and I just can’t function … Then I just kind of have to pick myself up and put myself back together and just focus on Marissa. I just want her home, so I can shut the world out and take care of her and get her to where she needs to be.” Saa said she would not give up looking for her daughter. She wants answers and is still hoping someone will come forward and help lead Greensboro police to find her daughter. “I was sure that she would be home ... Everybody said, 'Well, she'll be home by Christmas' or, 'She'll be home by her birthday,' but I didn't I did not think it would be a whole year,” Sara said. Sara said she last spoke with Greensboro police a few days before the 1-year date Marissa went missing. She remains hopeful. “There's a new detective ... They are ... making some ways. They are learning some things I can't publicly say, but it does give me a little hope. They are getting places,” Sara said. Her daughter’s five children are feeling the absence of their mother. “The older ones understand a little more. The younger ones. We're just saying that mommy's lost. We're looking for her. They miss her so much,” Sara said. She hopes someone will come forward with answers to the big question: Where is her daughter? “They definitely know more. They know a lot ... Nobody has come forward with any information,” Sara said. Marissa is described as a biracial woman who is around 5-foot-4 and weighs about 260 pounds. She has long black and blond braids. She has a heart tattoo on her face, and a butterfly tattoo near her eye. She was last seen wearing a white Tweety Bird T-shirt, blue jeans and yellow sneakers, according to Crimestoppers. Greensboro police say anyone who knows anything about where Marissa Carmichael is should call them immediately. Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers at (336) 373-1000.
