Confirmation hearings scheduled, Burgum's delayed
Jan 14, 2025
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Nominees for top posts in President-elect Donald Trump's administration are getting ready for the Senate's confirmation process.
While the process has been delayed for some, over a dozen hearings are happening, and former governor Doug Burgum's is scheduled to happen on Thursday, January 16.
If Burgum is confirmed by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, he would sit as the head of the Department of the Interior, which oversees federal lands and natural resources.
Republican senators are in the process of getting the team in place quickly since Trump's inauguration happens on January 20. GOP majorities are eager to get started on his policy agenda.
53 seats in the Senate are being held by Republicans, and nominations only need a simple majority, meaning most of the picks should be confirmed shortly after he takes office, but others could face an uphill battle.
