BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man who had two prior "strike" offenses when he attacked a neighbor who was heading to work was sentenced Tuesday to a life term in prison, according to court records.
Antonio Tellez, 42, was sentenced to 43 years to life in prison, records show. He was convicted of felony assault and threats charges, among other crimes, for the incident in southeast Bakersfield.
His prior strikes made him eligible for the life sentence.

On Nov. 14, 2022, Tellez, high on drugs, confronted and repeatedly punched a neighbor in the face in an unprovoked attack, prosecutors said. The neighbor fled inside his apartment, and Tellez banged on the door and threatened to kill him and his family if he didn't come out.
Tellez was found guilty in November. He has multiple prior convictions, including for spousal abuse and resisting arrest.
