Puppies abandoned in box thriving at shelter

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — After a rough start to their lives, a litter of puppies is getting the care they need.
“You can tell they are thriving,” Franklin County Animal Care and Control Director Kaye Persinger said. “Their eyes are opening and they’re just thriving little puppies right now.”
The ten puppies were found earlier this month by a Good Samaritan in a box along Morse Road in 19-degree weather, according to the Franklin County Dog Shelter. They were then brought to the shelter, which named them the Morse Road Miracle Pups.

“I don't think they would have lasted more than an hour out in those frigid circumstances so whomever found them, bless their heart and thought enough to bring them here because there’s no way they would have lasted that long out there," Persinger said.
The puppies require special care during all hours of the day and night.
“It's exactly like having a newborn, you have to have the time and the patience," Persinger said.
Five of the dogs are being fostered by a shelter employee while the other five are with another foster.
Persinger does not want any other dogs abandoned; if people end up with puppies but can't care for them, she urged them to reach out to the shelter.

"Let's see how we can help you instead of just abandoning any dogs out there, really, but especially these puppies who would not have survived," Persinger said. “These guys are all going to grow up to be healthy, very healthy, and very socialized pits. So we think they are pit mixes but they are going to make perfect additions to any family once they’re old enough.”
The shelter expects the puppies to be up for adoption in about a month and a half.
