Motorists may have to set aside more time to reach their destinations Tuesday morning. Early morning snowfall and temperatures only in the teens created slick roads in the city and surrounding suburbs, and the National Weather Service advised drivers to be cautious."Things are gonna be a little bit slippery," Mark Ratzer, a meteorologist with the weather service, said. "Don't drive as fast, [and] increase your following distance." By 6 a.m., 0.2 of snow fell at O'Hare Airport and 0.1 was reported at Midway, according to the weather service. Snow was expected to stop around 9 a.m. More than an inch of snow fell in surrounding suburbs — 2.6 inches fell in New Lenox and 1.5 inches were reported in Plainfield, Crete and Homer Glen. The temperature at O'Hare was 15 degrees as of 7:30 a.m. and was expected to reach 18 degrees, according to the weather service. The wind chill was expected to drop below zero by Tuesday night. Despite the lighter snowfall, Ratzer warned of hazardous conditions. "Even though the snow was relatively light, it did accumulate on the roads," Ratzer said. "Just leave a little extra time."
