Amtrak is offering $10 fares anywhere in Southern California for the next 10 days
Jan 14, 2025
In an effort to assist Angelenos impacted by the horrific wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes and displaced tens of thousands of people, Amtrak is currently offering $10 one-way fares on its Pacific Surfliner train service for travel anywhere in Southern California now through January 24.
To make use of the promotion, would-be travelers should use code V505 at checkout. Keep in mind that tickets must be purchased by Friday, January 17 and for travel between now and January 24.
More specifically, the discounted $10 fare is valid for one-way coach trips between any two of the 29 stations that the lines services between San Luis Obispo and San Diego. You can check out train schedules and book your pass right here. Though the discount is meant to assist those impacted by wildfires, the agency notes that the offer is open to everyone.
(Also, just a heads up that we’ve had difficulty getting the promo to apply through the Amtrak site, but have been able to get the discounted rate through the Pacific Surfliner page. Click the “book trip” button on the top of the Pacific Surfliner homepage and then enter V505 in the “promotion code” field; click submit and that’ll transfer you over to the regular Amtrak site. The options will show at full price, but once you add it to your cart it should appear as a $10 fare.)
For folks who don’t own a car, have lost theirs to the fires, are concerned about air quality or are simply in need of some peace of mind, this is clearly a helpful promotion that many Angelenos could use at the moment. For reference, a one-way ticket between L.A. and San Diego usually starts at $36, so this offers a considerable discount.
While the city gathers its strength back to emotionally and physically rebuild what’s been lost—and contends with another round of dangerous winds—both local businesses and individuals are putting their best foot forward to try to help those in need. Many restaurants, for example, are currently offering free meals to fire evacuees.
In case you’re able to lend a hand as well, check out our guide to wildfire relief efforts and consider browsing through this running list of L.A. eateries destroyed by the natural disaster. We include ways to help each one individually.
Stay safe, Angelenos.
